Light Quark Masses : a Status Report at Dpf 2000

چکیده

Significant progress has been made since 1996 in the determination of the light quark masses from both lattice QCD (LQCD) and QCD sumrules (SR). The evolution in time of the ranges quoted by the Particle Data Group and our best estimates as of DPF2000 are given below. Since the scale dependence between 2 and 1 GeV is very large, we quote all results in the MS scheme at scale μ = 2 GeV. Results at the lower scale 1 GeV may be obtained via mq(1 GeV) = 1.38mq(2 GeV) where the factor 1.38 corresponds to 4-loop running, with αs(m 2 τ ) = 0.334 . In quoting separate values for mu and md we have employed the ratio mu/md = 0.553, obtained from ChPT. The basis for these estimates is outlined briefly below. A more detailed discussion will appear in an extended version of this writeup .

Quark Masses on the Lattice: Light and Heavy

I review the current status of lattice calculations of light and heavy quark masses. Significant progresses, in these studies, have been allowed by the introduction of improved actions and non-perturbative renormalization techniques. Current determinations of light quark masses are accurate at the level of 20%, where the main source of uncertainty is represented by the quenching error. The dete...

Light Quark Masses from Quenched Lattice Qcd Simulations with Domain Wall Quarks∗

The light quark masses are fundamental parameters of the Standard Model and, as such, must be determined more precisely in order to increase its predictive power. Lattice QCD can play an important role in computing the quark masses, as it already has with the strong coupling constant. Recently it was shown that the new domain wall fermion discretization can be applied to this endeavor. This tal...

Dynamical quark effects on light quark masses

Light quark masses are calculated in lattice QCD with two degenerate flavors of dynamical quarks. The calculations are made with improved actions with lattice spacing a = 0.22-0.11 fm. In the continuum limit we find m(M&Smacr;)(ud)(2 GeV) = 3.44(+0.14)(-0.22) MeV using the pi and rho meson masses as physical input, and m(M&Smacr;)(s)(2 GeV) = 88(+4)(-6) MeV or 90(+5)(-11) MeV with the K or stra...

Full QCD Light Hadron Spectrum and Quark Masses : Final Results from CP - PACS ∗ CP - PACS

We present the final results of the CP-PACS calculation of the light hadron spectrum and quark masses with two flavors of dynamical quarks. Simulations are made with a renormalization-group improved gauge action and a mean-field improved clover quark action for sea quark masses corresponding to mPS/mV ≈ 0.8–0.6 and the lattice spacing a = 0.22–0.11 fm. For the meson spectrum in the continuum li...

PHYSICAL RESULTS from PARTIALLY QUENCHED SIMULATIONS

For some time to come, simulations of lattice QCD will not work directly with physical up and down quarks. This is because the computer time required scales roughly as m q with existing algorithms (at fixed physical box size). Present simulations, using machines sustaining up to 0.3 Teraflops, are limited to quark masses greater than about half the strange quark mass, an order of magnitude larg...
